WE ARE SEEKING A VETERINARY ASSISTANT TO JOIN OUR TEAM.
As a member of our team, you will perform various tasks to help our veterinarians and veterinary technicians. You will also be responsible for assisting clients and their pets during appointments. WE ARE SEEKING A VETERINARY ASSISTANT TO JOIN OUR TEAM.
As a veterinary assistant at Affordable Animal Emergency Clinic, you will be responsible for answering all calls from our four phone lines and instructing clients to fill out forms online. You’ll also need to record all phone calls on the call log sheet along with the time of the call, the caller’s name and phone number, their concerns regarding their pet, and their expected time of arrival. You will then need to inform the doctor on duty and additional staff of the calls received and incoming emergency cases.
During appointments, you’ll bring patients to the exam room or treatment area and inform the client according to the doctor’s instructions.

You will also assist with a variety of tasks, including:
Taking patients’ weights and temperatures and recording them on the form.
Properly restraining patients to assist the doctor or technician in administering medications and treatments, placing IV catheters, and drawing blood.
Learning how to take and develop x-rays, archive digital x-rays to CD, and send x-rays to the radiologist for interpretation, so that you can assist the doctor and technician.
Helping perform blood tests for diagnostic profiles, SNAP tests, and other in-house laboratory tests.
Preparing surgical instruments, clippers, anesthetic box, and anesthesia as per doctor instructions.
Assisting in disconnecting IV lines and IV catheters from patients.
Ensuring all patients have cage cards, functional IV pumps, and updated treatments.
Asking the doctor for their final words and double checking that the medical report was completed and approved prior to patient discharge.

Veterinary assistants are required to collect total charges and deposits (We accept cash, credit/debit issued by Visa, Discover Card, or American Express, and Care Credit.) from clients as per doctor instructions. As a member of our team, you will be required to communicate with clients, co-workers, and supervisors in a friendly, professional manner. You’ll also need to file and update patient records, help the doctor finish online invoices, fax/email reports to patients’ regular veterinary clinics, and file reports and receipts accordingly. Our assistants also call clients when ashes, nameplates, or clay pawprints are available for pickup.
Housekeeping is part of your job as a veterinary assistant, and the use of disinfectant solutions, hand sanitizers, and anti-bacterial solutions is mandatory.

Housekeeping duties include:
- Maintaining a clean, fresh environment in the reception area, treatment room, laboratory area, x-ray room, kennel room, surgery room, restroom, isolation room, and front of the building.
- Cleaning and disinfecting cages, tables, and countertops
- Sweeping, mopping, dust busting, and vacuuming the floor
- Loading/unloading laundry and putting folded towels and blankets away
- Loading/unloading dishwasher and putting things in their designated locations
As a veterinary assistant at Affordable Animal Emergency Clinic, you will be required to assist with no limitations as per the approved agreement.
